Exultate Singers performs Monteverdi's sumptuous Renaissance masterpiece, Vespro della Beata Vergine (Vespers of 1610), in a collaboration with the virtuosic early music ensemble His Majesty's Sagbutts and Cornetts and soloists from world-renowned vocal consort I Fagiolini.

Lavishly scored for strings, sackbuts, cornets, 10-part choir and an array of vocal soloists, the Vespers wonderfully combines the glories of the Renaissance with the opulence of the Baroque. The performers will be arranged around the hall in a variety of ensembles throughout the performance, echoing the galleries and balconies of St Mark's Venice.

This dazzling work is regarded by many as one of the greatest glories of the baroque choral repertoire, juxtaposing reflective, intimate moments with opulent, flamboyant virtuosic music.

His Majestys Sagbutts & Cornetts is a specialist early music recital group comprising two cornetts, three sackbutts, two violins, bass violin, violone, theorbo, and chamber organ. The ensemble has collaborated with leading choirs including Sir John Eliot Gardiner’s Monteverdi Choir, the BBC Singers, and the choirs of Trinity, King’s and St John’s Colleges, Cambridge and appeared at the Salzburg Festival, St Mark’s, Venice, and the Sydney Opera House.

I Fagiloini is a British solo-voice ensemble specialising in Renaissance and contemporary music, founded in 1986 by its director Robert Hollingworth. In 1988 the group won the UK Early Music Network’s Young Artists’ Competition and has since released fifteen CDs and two DVDs. The ensemble gives about 50 concerts a year from the BBC Proms and major European festivals to further afield such as the USA, Far East and both ends of Africa.
