A concert celebrating the 1300th anniversary of Westbury-on-Trym Parish Church, featuring music from across the centuries. Opening with a single voice intoning Hildegard of Bingen’s 12th century antiphon Laus trinitati, the programme moves on to unaccompanied sacred choral music of the 16th century by Byrd, Victoria, Guerrero and Palestrina, and richly textured works by Vaughan Williams, Brahms and Rheinberger. Contemporary pieces by the Latvian composer Ešenvalds and the French-Lebanese composer Naji Hakim bring us to the present day with some heartrendingly beautiful, soaring melodic lines in the Ešenvalds and lively, toe-tapping singing in the Hakim.
A brilliant evening’s entertainment from Exultate Singers, which has appeared on Classic FM, on BBC Radios 2, 3 and 4 and BBC television including The One Show and Songs of Praise. The choir is known for its engaging performances, making use of the building’s spatial effects with singers placed in different positions around the hall throughout the concert, enveloping the audience with stunning live surround sound.
