Description
Exultate Singers returns to perform the choir’s much-loved Christmas Christmas concerts in the candlelit setting of the medieval church of St James Priory, the oldest building in Bristol.
The programme features radiant British and European Christmas music that spans the centuries, weaving together much-loved carols with luminous contemporary works, from Cecilia McDowall’s Now may we singen and Alexander Campkin’s The Crimson Sun to Eric Whitacre’s glowing Lux aurumque and Ian Assersohn’s jubilant Make We Joy Now In This Fest.
The rich traditions of Isabella Leonarda, Victoria, Praetorius, Gabrieli and de Cristo contrast with evocative modern arrangements by Michael McGlynn, as well as cherished seasonal favourites including Away in a Manger and Past Three O’Clock.
The concerts will be given on Saturday 6th December at 4.30pm (finishing 6.40pm), and Wednesday 10th December at 7.30pm (finishing at 9.40pm), with an interval when refreshments will be served.
Access There is level access through the central doors into the church, and one step up at the door to the left. There is a lift to provide access to the toilets which are in the cafe area, and a disabled toilet available. Any chair can be removed to provide a wheelchair space. Assistance dogs are welcome but no other dogs are allowed. If you are planning to bring an assistance dog, it is useful for us to know in advance. Please email info@exultatesingers.org if you would like to check any access details, or to ask for an advance copy of the programme. We welcome children aged 8 years + but the concert is not suitable for younger children as the audience is very quiet and still.
