Join accomplished chamber choir Exultate Singers and the internationally renowned instrumentalists of His Majestys Sagbutts & Cornetts for a captivating journey through the rich tapestry of Renaissance Italy, showcasing a wide array of sacred and secular works from cathedrals, convents, and courts across the peninsula. The music, deeply rooted in both the sacred and the secular, is a reflection of the profound spiritual devotion and cultural flourishing of the time.
This musical tour begins in Rome and Venice with splendid multi-choir works by Tiburtio Massaino and Giovanni Gabrieli sung from the balconies of St George’s Bristol. These revolutionary pieces feature spatial effects and dynamic contrasts, creating a sense of dialogue between different parts of the ensemble.
Rarely-performed music by female composers Chiara Cozzolani and Raffaella Aleotti that contrast large tutti sections with expressive and flamboyant solo passages take us to 17th century Milan and Ferrara, with visits to Bologna, Cremona, Verona, Mantua, Florence and Naples completing our tour.
His Majestys Sagbutts & Cornetts is a pioneering ensemble of the UK’s premier virtuoso brass players who specialise in historically informed performances of Renaissance and Baroque music.
